Program Description

Balance Massage School will offer a Massage Therapy Training course consisting of 625 hours of in-class instruction. The class will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 8:30am – 12:30pm and every other Saturday from 8:00am – 4:00pm. The program will take approximately 53 weeks to complete depending on holiday schedules and inclement weather.

Our 625 hour in-class supervised instruction is administered utilizing the following criteria:

  • 250 hours of Massage and Bodywork assessment, theory and application
  • 155 hours of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Kinesiology
  • 80 hour of Massage for Special Populations
  • 80 hours of Career Development and Clinic hours
  • 60 hours of Ethics and Professional Practices

In addition to class hours, the student will be required to do a little amount of homework and hands-on practice.

The course is broken down into two semesters. The first semester gives the students a base from which to begin a more complex style of working. After completing a student success curriculum they will begin to learn a basic sequence to do a therapeutic massage and will be hands-on early in the course. In this semester the primary focus is anatomy, kinesiology and an introduction to physiology. Fundamental massage techniques will be presented as well as discussions about “energy” and how it affects both the therapist and the client. Students will also learn about safety, sanitation, hygiene, medical terminology, directional terminology, indications/contraindications and ethics.

During this segment students will also learn and practice:

  • Therapist/Client Rapport
  • Sensitivity
  • Using your Intuition
  • Listening Skills


After successfully completing the first semester, the student will begin the second semester.. This class gives the student introductory instruction into several different modalities including pregnancy massage, hot stone massage and reflexology. This section will also include more in-depth study of anatomy and physiology and an introduction to a variety of techniques to do more advanced work. Business, marketing and job preparation skills will also be covered during this semester. Some classes can stand alone and other classes are ones in which the student might want to continue training.
